Youth to Spend Earth Day Cleaning Up Sabana Park

Several events are planned around Costa Rica in observance of Earth Day Sunday, one of which will bring about 100 young people to La Sabana park, west of San José, to clean up and plant trees, according to a statement from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

It will be a very rich experience for all participants... Youth will take charge of collecting trash, cleaning the lake, painting and planting more than 300 trees of native species to Costa Rica, said Johanna Arce, coordinator of the Council for Young People (CPJ) development program.

Participants will include members of the council's regional committees and other youth groups. However, young people ages 12-35 who don't belong to one of these groups are also invited to participate and should apply with CPJ.

Destination Park at Dix One Step Closer to Reality

RALEIGH, N.C. - Friends of Dorothea Dix Park, DIX306 and Dix Visionaries, groups advocating for the preservation of the Dorothea Dix property as a world-class destination park, announced today their support of North Carolina House Bill 1644. The bill outlines future uses of the Dorothea Dix Hospital Campus and was introduced on the House floor this week.

We are excited that the General Assembly is taking positive steps towards preserving all 306 acres on Dix campus for a world-class destination park by working to establish a park district, said Jay Spain, president of Friends of Dorothea Dix Park.

A world-class destination park is a city-centered park like Central Park in New York. It is a place where families, schoolchildren and visitors can gather to enjoy open space and views of the city.
